Wearin' o' the Green

Bonnie at Pixel Dust Photo Art suggested posting photo art highlighting the color green.

I took this photo at the Butterfly Place, located in Westford, MA.  It was so much fun to walk through as the butterlies flew about and even landed on us.  It was also fun to watch the reaction of the other visitors.  Everyone had a smile on their face.

I edited this photo using the free for download software Photoscape.  I am pleased by how much the software has to offer, but I am really anxious to work more with layers.  I've downloaded another free software called Gimp, which is touted to be very similar to Photoshop, but I am wondering if I should just make the plunge and purchase Photoshop.  Does anyone have any recommendations?  Thank You !

  1. What an interesting butterfly image, Phyllis. It doesn't look real, but rather like a paper image! I love those butterfly places because the species are all exotic ones that we can't get in our home countries.
I hope that someone will come up with some good recommendations for you concerning Photoshop.
    Have lovely day!

  3. I love your image here, so beautiful and strong yet delicate at the same time :) I believe you can also download a free 30 day trial of Photoshop elements which might be good to try out. I'm a fan of Photoshop CS5. Experiment with what you have and see if you get 'hooked'! I know I did, which is why I could justify CS5..have fun!

  6. This is stunning Phyllis. I'm trying to imagine being in a place with butterflies everywhere, especially this time of year.
As for PS-I took a digital imaging class at my local community college. As a student I could get the software at a much reduced price and the class has taught me a lot-in a mind blowing kind of way. I'm currently taking the advanced version.
I do not use downloads, actions, pre-made processing tho' I hear a lot of people say they do. I'm trying to learn as much as possible so I can understand and create my own.
I was able to do a 30 free trial of PS CS5 before purchase. I also hear a lot of people say that elements, which is a lot less expensive is enough for them-it is a powerful tool as well.
To me, it looks like you're getting great results-you'll be fine no matter which direction you go.

  8. What a beautiful art piece. I think it would be awesome to visit the Butterfly place.
I use Gimp all the time and purchased a book to understand how to use it. Far cheaper then the expense of PSE in my opinion.

  12. Your green butterfly is so beautifully Irish!
Consider the free trial for Photoshop Elements. I believe Elements is very reasonable.....like maybe $90.00.
can't speak for Gimp although I've heard good things about it.

  13. Thank you for all of the great suggestions!!! I knew you would help me. I've purchased a book about using GIMP and will probably download the free trial version of photoshop next...and the idea of classes is tucked away in my mind. Thank you so much again.
