Photo Art Friday - December 2nd

This week Bonnie at Pixel Dust Photo made the suggestion that we try some edits we have been wanting to try, but have felt were too hard or that we just haven't had the time for.  The photo art could be produced from following a tutorial or simply the result of some creative play with new photo art tools and techniques.
I chose a photo that I wasn’t really sure what I would do with, but thought I would experiment with layers and the eraser tool.  I used Photoscape for most of my editing, and pixlr.com to make the layers. After much editing, I didn’t use the eraser tool as much as I had originally thought, and only to bring back the orange color of the swan’s beaks.
I just could not decide if I like the photo with text or without. I think that is one of my next goals - learn how to make text look better.

And with Bonnie's texture "Gratitude"

Happy Friday to all of my friends, especially those posting and exploring at

  1. That is some GREAT "experimenting". Love the finished artwork, but that original photo is a stunner too!

  4. Well, I like them all.
It is so hard to choose a favorite sometimes.

  5. What great edits. First I love your subject matter. Second the textures are fabulous with the photo's. I love adding text to my photo's. A great place to experiment with that is Picnik.

  6. all three are lovely . . .

they are all lovely, and your text turned out beautifully; I'm with you though, I'm never sure about the addition of text and never seem to arrive at what I envisioned!

  7. phyllis - i am a scanner... never knew what to call myself. LOL -- this is beautiful texture processing; the light is absolutely gorgeous. and, the 2nd one with text is equally as nice. Personally, I still like the "gratitude" but perhaps with just a wee bit more light - it is a softer touch and the texture tones it down; and, I want to see those lovely beaks and the vibrancy of the total image. Wonderful job.

  8. I agree with Karen in terms of the lovely use of light. Thank you for sharing your process and insecurities. We all experience them. It truly is by using the tools and experimenting with them that we become comfortable, find our style, find what we like and don't like. It's wonderful if we can enjoy the process and I sense that you are. So happy you are sharing with Photo Art Friday!

btw, I used to run workshops based on Barbara Sher's first book. She's wonderful and I think there are a lot of we 'scanners' out there!

  9. Lovely one and all Phyllis. I'm not super drawn to textures, but that last image I think is my favorite of the three. I keep promising myself I will try new processing techniques, but don't seem to carve out the time. Maybe that's a good resolution for 2012. Have a wonderful day.
